I am used to using win 98se and just finally got a new comp with XP on it, but I"m having some problems with programs starting up at start up and I don't want them to. I know on win 98 you just went to "run" msconfig, but I've tried doing that on XP and it doesn't take me to system config utility. How do I get to that so I can tell windows what I want to start and don't want.

    Welcome to MajorGeeks.

msconfig is the correct command for the System Config Utility in XP.

What happens when you enter it?

I would also suggest you go to the Spyware Forum and follow their recommendations to ensure you are not infected.

If you are sure you are clean and msconfig is not working, you can extract msconfig.exe from a command prompt window.

Start, run and type in cmd

Insert your XP CD into the drive and enter the following command:

    EXPAND -R X:\I386\MSCONFIG.EX_Z:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\BINARIES
