I've got a problem. I have an Asus Eee netbook that will not start up. When I turn it on, it begins normally. The Windows XP logo will come up with the loading bar; but only for a second. Then the screen flashes and the logo has a yellow tint to it. Everything on the screen turns a yellowish color. Then the screen goes blank. The backlight it still on but there is nothing on the screen. When I press enter, put in my password, and press enter again, it makes the login sound. I cannot start it in BIOS because I am not able to see anything on the screen. It seems to be working but the screen is not displaying anything. So I'm guessing that there is something wrong with the video card... Is there anything I can do?

It was purchased as a refurbished PC and still has a warranty on it.

Sounds like the backlight or other part of the display is broken. GPU is probably fine but th screen itself is dieing. If it has warranty send it back and get them to fix it.

Return under warranty, do not even attempt to fix this yourself if ,as you say, the machine is under warranty as that would viod any such warranty. have you a monitor that you can plug into it, as you may need to retrieve your personal data or save personal files from your hdd, as in most cases when you send back under warranty they re-install a fresh OS.

Hey thanks for your help guys!

For some reason the screen is now working... I don't know what happened but it works now. I contacted Asus about the problem and am now awaiting a reply. Thanks though guys!

I have a 701 eeepc (linux) normally connected to a 17" LCD display. If I don't have the VGA adapter pushed in a certain way, my screen is tinted yellow. Are you viewing on an external monitor? If so, playing with the VGA connector will get the tint to work properly.

Thanks for the feed back..... let us know what Asus says,it could be that a cable has worked it self loose, but let Asus resolve it as that is what warranties are there for.
But in the mean time you can as I and plodr have suggested use an external monitor with it for now.

Make sure you keep a note of any refference that Asus give you. If the fault re-occurs after the warrenty runs out and you have a refference of reporting it while under warrenty you may be able to argue a repair.

plodr: No, I'm not currently using an external monitor. For some reason it just started working again. But thanks for the tip! If it happens again, I know what to do.

    Still no response from Asus.

Thanks for all the input you guys! I really appreciate it!
That's what I like about MajorGeeks and I'll keep coming back
