WINDOWS XP-Startup very SLOW!

Hello. I am having a problem with my pc. When I start or restart, it is VERY SLOW. I have tried antispyware; the internet is fine. It is just when the computer starts. It gets to my desktop, then takes an extremely long time to load things? Also, it freezes when I try to play some games? I just can't figure out what to do.
Specs:
SONY VAIO
UCV039MEUM
1.00 GHZ, 112 MB RAM

WIN XP HOME EDITION
VER 2002, SERVICE PACK 2

well you could try removing everything from startup in msconfig, and also disabling any network connections especially if its set to automatically get an ip. Also any services you dont need to use

 

Thanks. I did try that, but I want things like my sound, email and the time to start. I just don't know which files belong to what program in msconfig startup if they don't say.

 

uh your sound and email how do you mean? just make sure you dont disable any essential stuff and it will be ok your not gonna stop sound or time working and email i dont understand what you mean there

 

I am sorry. I mean the sound and email start when windows starts, the icons in the right bottom corner. This may be a stupid question, but the icons on the bottom left...do they start when windows starts also?

I don't know what is essential or not in the msconfig startup section.

This way you will know that there is no malware causing the problem. When that is done then you can troubleshoot more reliably.
