Windows XP Startup

OS Win.xp sp2 Dell Diminsion 4600.Pentium 4CPU 2.80GHz. Ram 768. When I turn My pc on it takes about 60 seconds to get to desktop (wallpaper)Then it takes up to 2 minutes for the icons to appear.I have run Spybot, ad-aware se, MS. Anti-Spyware Beta, REGSCRUB XP & have run AVG antivirus, disk cleanup,defrag & I am running Zone Alarm Pro. I also disabled everything in services that I could & nothing has helped. Do you need a hijack this log. Thanks for your help.

Are you using the Windows XP that came with the Dell? I used to have the same issues with my old PC and my parents PC that were Dell until I put on a copy of Windows that was free of all of the Dell bloatware.

 

Yes I am using the same Win.Xp that came downloaded with my Dell. I have had it a couple of years & it was ok.

 

Depends on how many services that have to start up when the OS loads also. Try a "Repair" of XP with the CD if you have it, and see if that helps.

 

Are you running more than one firewall, I had norton and panda going at the same time and man what a mess.

 

No I am running Zone Alarm only. I think now it is SP2 giving me all the trouble.
I uninstalled it last night and everything worked like it did before. I didn't know if I should leave it off so I re-downloaded it & now I have the same problem. Can I just remove it. Isn't there such a thing as a clean removel? Thanks Guys, Jack Gillis

 

Ps I have had SP2 on there for a long time & now it starts giving me this problem.
