Windows XP Taskbar Alert

Can someone tell me how to turn off the taskbar alert? Everytime a program needs attention, it flashes on the taskbar, especially IM's. Its really getting annoying. Is there a setting to turn off taskbar alerts?

I think it is in services

1. Right click My Computer and select Manage.
2. On the left pane, expand Services and Applications.
3. Highlight Services to check the Windows Update related services:

on the right should be that option somewhere in that list. Highlight it and you should see the option to stop it. This is where you go to stop auto updates and some such... things like this...

- Automatic Updates (AU) service
- BITS service
- Event log service

thanks for the reply. I looked under services and read all the desciptions. Nothing seemed to control it, or it wasn't obvious. any other suggestions?

Texan, This is about SP2's "Security Center" this doesnt have anything to do with what this guy wants lol

I dont believe you can disable this as its standard for every program.

 

Oops! Oh well. (laughing at myself) I have XP and I do not have those alerts. I wonder what's up w/ that.

 

Its not really an alert, all it does it flash when it needs attention. For example, look at the image below. See how "My Computer" is darker, its flashing trying to get "attention".

 

Oh! I thought he was referring to the little sign that alerts you that your running out of space or memory...things like that.
