    Hello everyone:

I am starting the process of switching my computer over to Windows 7 from XP.

To date, I have done the following:

*All data is on external drives, just checking my documents and my pictures to ensure nothing is left on there.
*Internet and Email info is ready to go.
*Outlook .pst file and address book on external drive

I only need to ensure that my scanner SCW4300U and my printer, HP 7150 has drivers to work with the Windows 7 system.

Is there anything I am missing before converting. I am taking all the time I need to complete this project to ensure that it is done correctly.

The computer I am currently using with XP is working okey, but I know that I need to go to Windows 7 soon.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

I have an old flatbed scanner that doesn't work with 7 but by setting up an XP virtual machine in 7 I am still able to use it. You do need XP installation media to be able to do this, and your PC does need a minimum spec for it to work satisfactorily. If this is of interest post back with your disk and memory details.

Write down your logons, passwords and serial numbers for EVERYTHING.
I am always surprised at how many things the computer remembers for me. Until I reinstall and am brutally reminded.

Unless you take a disk image and store it on an external there is bound to be something you've overlooked. You would be able to mount the image after the upgrade and recover any files you need. You could use any of a number of free, reliable imaging programs for this, such as Aomei Backupper, Macrium Reflect, Easeus Todo Backup.

So true. Another is the 'Favorites' folder with all the bookmarks.
