Windows XP trouble

Hey Everybody!

I have two very frustrating problems,

The first one is that when I leave my computer my screen turns black even though I disabled my screensaver. when I move the mouse I get my desktop wallpaper with no icons and nothing at all works it won't receive anything from my keyboard.

The second one is when I run firefox it runs but doesn't display (I see it in the task bar) but once I click on it nothing happens. (alt-tab doesn't work)

Some Information
It is extremly unlikely that this was caused by a virus because I have good antivirus software and just installed Windows XP yesterday. My computer is fully adequete to run XP I know that because I managed to run vista very. well.

What should I do?

First problem: right click on the desktop and select properties. Then click the screensaver tab and click the Power button. The power settings have nothing to do with running or not running a screensaver. It sounds like your monitor and hard drive might be set to turn off after a certain period of time.

Second Problem: You say you installed XP yesterday. Did you download an install a fresh copy of FF? There is a new version out today. It may be trying to update itself. The first thing it will do after it updates, is head to the Mozilla site. If that site is down or overcrowded from all the updates, it will appear that your browser is not working.
You can also go to programs/Mozilla FF and run the Safe mode version to be sure it is working properly.
