I got the icon update from microsoft on my computer, so I updated. It told me I needed to reboot for the updates to take effect. Now when I boot the booting process goes around in a big useless circle. Starts to load normally, gets to choose microsoft xp or some other choice ( I forget now) Then returns to the start. I have tried all safe boot, last know good config etc.... blah blah blah!So Can I go beat some one up at microsoft, throw my computer out, then buy a mac or is there a solution? Oh THANKS FOR THE UPDATE MICROSOFT A--HOLE!

Do you know what the update was exactly for?

have you tried booting in safe mode and then doing a system restore to an earlier point or maybe you can try a windows repair by using the xp disk, that may get it up again. to run the disk you should go into bios and set first boot device to cd or dvd whichever you have and boot from the xp disk and follow the instructions for selecting repair. as soon as you turn on the computer start tapping the del key. that should bring up the bios menus.

My last computer did the exact same thing, and I bet the update was SP3 for XP. If you have a video card in, try taking it out, uninstalling the SP3 or whatever update it was, uninstalling/reinstalling the video driver. I use to have to turn it on and off and last known, start normally like 5-10 times before I could get it to turn on. Hope this helps or at least gives you some ideas.

Make sure to system restore if you can get it started, and uninstall the update. If none of that works then maybe try the video card. I really never figured out the problem, I just sometimes would have to turn it on and off like 10 times before I could get it to start, and sometimes take out my card, until I could get the SP uninstalled, and do a system restore.

Problem is if I remove the video card I can not see what is going on in my computer lol I use the video card to hook up to lcd screen. I am not sure if there is another way to view without video card?

Oh.... mine had an intergrated card as well as the radeon that was in it. No, there is not a way to do it. Just try everything else first. Do you have windows recovery console installed? you would see it right after the computer boots, before the windows xp logo.
Here is the link to recovery console, posted by one of our fearless leader.

I just want to say thank you for your help! Did you help, I really would have to say yes because you pointed me in the right direction for the help that I needed and helped me understand what has happened! For that I am very grateful! I did how ever just have to re-install windows xp in my computer, which resulted in a loss of all programs that can not be stored in my external hard drive! Which is my fault not yours! Sloth is my downfall lol! Once again thank you for your time, patience and knowledge!
