Windows XP Update screwed me

Yesterday I updated windows...everything was working fine before that. So after I install it I reboot and now I cannot open my Internet Explorer, any messenger progs, or Kazaa. I have to use Mozilla (which I hate) in order to access the internet. I ran a virus scan and did have a virus on my comp...but I got rid of it...yet I still cannot use IE or any other of the programs i mentioned above. Anyone have a clue? I'd appreciate the help

Is the Windows Firewall enabled-you can check in the control panel. I ask because the programs you mentioned all need access to the internet to work.

 

Hi,if the windows update caused the problem----perhaps uninstalling the update will eliminate the problem.
I am very selective when installing any windows updates.If any cause a problem----i uninstall it ASAP.
I have a great firewall and antivirus---so i don`t worry about windows updates much.If possible,i use another browser--even though it can`t read some sites.

after you have worked out your problems, do yourself a favor and get rid of kazaa. it will only maek ur computer worse.

 

I second the firewall theory, especially if it's Zone Alarm. Sometimes after updating XP, I have found Zone Alarm reverts to it's highest security level...which essentially shuts down just about anything that wants to connect to the internet. Worth a check.

 

and i believe you probably had sp2 installed in your windows update (if you have XP) and i believe kazaa doesn't work with sp2. so, if you want a p2p solution, use emule or something else. kazaa is full of viruses and trojans anyway.

as far as IE not working, do you get an error message? does the browser itself not open? if it does open, what opens in the browser? same goes for you messenger programs.
