    Hi

I have a windows xp pro mahine all of a sudden stopped shutting down. I ran ccleaner and malwarebytes came up with nothing. I disabled everything in msconfig startup. still does not work. I log in as different users and it still does not shut down properly. however if you go log off then shut down it works fine. If you boot in safe mode it shuts down fine. Just normally will not shut down. anyone have a utility that might help or a log file i can look at that might point me in the right direction of the culprit. Any suggestions would be wonderful. thanks

    Eric

    Hi eric,

Check event viewer and see what error you are getting....Right click on 'my computer'...Click 'Manage'....Click on the plus sign next to 'Event Viewer' to expand...Look for errors (marked with a red X) under 'systems' and 'applications'....Note the source and event ID number...Double click on an error and the properties box will open with more information on the error....Also following the link in the properties box will give you possible solutions (if any)

Here is a good troubleshooting guide for shutdown problems..
