Windows Xp Won't Start

Ok so I load XP and all of my icons and my desktop loads but then if you put the mouse pointer in the task bar the timeglass apears. And if you click on an icon it just makes the icon that dark color when you click it once and then the whole computer freezes. But the mouse can still move. The only way to get my computer loaded is in safe mode. So what can I do?

run it in safe mode then

Dunno if you can or not but get a copy of spybot, which may clear it up

if not try back up important documents and format pc

I did use spybot and www.trendmicro.com but they both didn't help. I also used winpatrol and edited my startup progdrams. I also went to add and remove programs and deleted all spyware and crap.

 

ok what i suggest now is that...

load task manager as soon as windows starts and then click the processes tab

then sort them by user

then any processes in your user that you dont know what they are end the processes, that should clear some stuff up

Then tell me if it works and we can then see where to go from there

Can you get into your start menu through you keyboard?

Formatting with little troubleshooting is NOT the way to go. From Safe Mode, got to start, run,a nd type services.msc and click OK.

In the services list, locate SSDP discovery service. Right click, go to Properties, and change the startup type to disabled and click OK.

Go back to normal mode and test it. If all is well, great. Let me know in this thread and I'll attach a perfectly working copy of the service that you can merge into your registry.
