Windows XP won't Startup

I got a message from windows update saying it had new software already downloaded and ready to install. I installed it and it wanted to restart after installing. Everything shutdown properly but hangs when it restarts. It doesn't restart in "last known good settings", Safemode, or safemode with networking.
I haven't looked at the event viewer or messed with the services cause I can't get to them of course.

Any ideas on how to get it restarted? (my system info is below)

You have the Windows CD to access the Recovery Console? (just checking)

Put the CD in, It says Welcome to Setup, Click R for Recovery Console, Choose the Windows (probably #1 but make sure), Type the Admin password, At the command prompt in Recovery Console, type the following lines. Press ENTER after each line.
cd $NtServicePackUninstall$\Spuninst
batch spuninst.txt
exit
Remove CD, Restart computer, Run the Windows XP SP2 Removal Wizard to remove Windows XP SP2. To do this:
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
At the command prompt, type the following lines. Press
ENTER after each line.

cd %Windir%\$NtServicePackUninstall$\Spuninst
spuninst.exe

Follow the instructions to remove Windows XP SP2.

 

I don't mean to say there's not other ways to fix it. I've fixed things manually in Recovery Console, like renaming stuff with the command line. I've never deleted SP2 like this, I don't know, it just seemed like one possible option that may work.
