WindowsMe startup error message

HI !I am new in here and i need some help please.Here are my problemsi have a Compaq Presario with windows me installed)Everything was working very well and one morning when i started the computer the desk top showed up in the smallest resolution possible and the color depth has been downgraded to 16 colors(i did not touched display settings before that).After i saw that i tried to change back the settings but when the computer restarts,it just reverts back to the other settings.The wallpaper from my desktop is almost unrecognizable,really fuzzy.After the computer boots up and the desktop is launched the following error comes up:Rundll has caused a problem in MMSYSTEM.DLL Rundll will close now.My mouse its not working(actually the mouse pointer do not point the screen).The mouse is working just when i boots up the computer in SAFE MODE.I cant use any multimedia applications.I can surf the net using the keyboard ,I can't view webpages very well everything is hard to read ,fuzzy.I tried RESTORE SYSTEM but I cant restore.Before all the problems started i did not made any change in settings.Please help..please

 

Have you tried usind a boot-up disk to load an earlier config?

 

Sounds like your video drivers got corrupted & the computer defaulted to VGA (16 colours, 640x480 resolution). Did your Compaq come with any kind of CD? Usually there's drivers for the various different components on the CD. If not, try going to the HP/Compaq website to find the drivers for your particular model & O/S platform. Re-install & everything should be ok.
