I search the forum and could not find a topic that would help me.

Here is my problem. When I login to my account or any other account I get this error when the desktop screen starts up:

    http://www.d-eo.com/AHH.jpg

Ignore the Easy Access Button Software message. The one above it is what I need help with.

If the url does not work for you or you do not feel like going to the above address that shows the picture. Here is what the message says:

    Title: winlogon-exe - Application Error
Message: The instruction at "0x10017ef4" referenced memory at "0x1518000". The memory could not be "read".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

When I click "OK" it restarts the computer. When I click "CANCEL" it restarts the computer.

Sunday, the computer was working fine. Monday the computer was screwed up when I login. First the computer was freezing on when I login to an account but then while trying to fix that problem I ended up getting the winlogon.exe problem and no longer got the freezing problem.

Anyone know how I can fix this problem and why did it occur? Thanks!

Re that porn pop that trys to load in startup. What ver of the OS u runnning if u r running 2000 or XP just try logging in using a different account in the case of XP when u see the login screen you can click ur mouse away from any of the shown login icons and then press control+alt and delete one time to the the legacy NT login screen then login as Administrator
spelled exactly as i have case sensitive and no password. if u have assigned a pword the remember it or ur basicly screwed. once u get into the system click start>run msconfig click ok and click the startup tab and uncheck all checked items please dont ? none of them are needed to boot windows. exit that without reboot very impt. next search your hard drive for that file it looks for and fails on. and delete it. try and reboot and see if that works
if not ur looking at a clean format reload yes i said loose all and start over.

    goood luck

I disagree. There are many things that can be tried before resorting to that extreme measure. It could even be a problem with RAM.

But I do agree about trying to log in to a different account or as Administrator.

CWilson, does this same behavior occur when you boot into Safe Mode?

I am the admin, and I have log in regular accounts and received the same problem.

It does not occur when in safe mode.

    go to safe mode..

go to start..run.. type MSCONFIG. When the box pops up.. go to the startup tab and disable all the items shown. Apply and then reboot normally.
