winlogon.exe no disk

After almost everytime I go to shutdown my laptop I get this popup that says winlogon.exe - No Disk
There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive E:.

Then it gives me the option to cancel, try again, or continue... try again and continue do nothing, cancel closes the box and a new one pops up, i do this a few times til my computer apparently shuts down.

I am running Windows 8 release preview so I don't know if its just a bug with this os or not. I have ran malwarebytes and windows defender and both came up clean. Anyone have any suggestions?

This could have been an installation problem, or winlogon.exe is referencing a file on the E: drive that doesn't exist. Try putting the Windows 8 install DVD into the drive, and see what happens.

 

Thanks for the advice, I should add that I don't have an E drive. My big worry is that I may have some sort of malware on my pc that malwarebytes and windows defender did not find. The problem has gone away for now so I cannot try using the windows 8 disk. But i'll try it next time it shows up.

 

Did you install using a USB drive, that may have mounted as Drive E?

 

no i installed it with the dvd drive which uses drive D

 

Hmmm ok. Probably just a result of using beta software.

Thanks its my first time using the beta software so I never know if a problem is the result of the software or something else

 

This seems to be a common bug. See if the 'Most Helpful Reply' posted here resolves the issue.
