winmx disconnection

Hi all;

I need help with WinMx. I have a DSL connection. When I log in to WinMx, I successfully choose files to download. After downloading has commenced, within 5 minutes WinMx is disconnected. It also disconnects me from my internet connection for up to 2-3 minutes per time. I run Win 98 SE on my system. It hasn't always been like this however. The last month or so I have began noticing this issue.

It is becoming very frustrating and I am at a loss as to why this is happening. Anyone shed some light here?

Alcatel Speed Touch USB Modem (530)
Sytem Board PC 133 Socket 370

OK, first try the FAQ's here, do the usual,....... you know spyware checks etc.


Get latest drivers for your system, you can use this to figure out what you have in your machine

Update what you can, BIOS, DirectX etc..defrag..

Go to Microsofts Knowledge Base, sometimes useful , and remember.... search engines are your friend




Then get back to the peeps here, I'm sure we'll find a way

Just downloaded 'Ad aware' done a scan and it found and deleted 244 objects!

I will follow your advice and see if it improves. Thanks for you quick response and help.
