Every time I boot up, I get this error window:

\winnt\csc\csc1.tmp is corrupt and unreadable. Run CHKDSK.

When I click ok, I get a BSOD. It seems that if I don't immediately clickon the OKand let the pc finish booting, sometimes it boots okay, sometimesit still goes BSOD.

I also sometimes get a \winnt\tasks\sa.dat is corrupt and unreadable preceeding the other error.

The bottom line is that I cannot boot normally, CHKDSK does not resolve the problem, this error pops up every time, and I am going nuts.

Once it's up, all works fine; I just can't reboot.

WIN2K, SP4, Syagate FW, Avast AV, no spyware or malware, RAM tests good, nothing funky running;a very clean pc.

    HELP

    Thanks,
    Aiko

Does the CSC1.tmp file actually exist? If it does then delete it as it is only a temporary file.

    No, it does not.

Well in that case you should clear all the Temporary Internet files etc etc. In fact run Disk Cleanup (under Accessories>System Tools) and that may well rid you of the problem.

If it does not then the file may be being called up from within the registry - but try the easy things first. Oh and you did make sure you are viewing ALL files and don't have system files etc hidden - just in case the CSC1.tmp file has been marked as hidden.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried all the obvious stuff. I had already done all you suggested, and more, and have searched the internet and knowledge bases.

    All suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks,

    Follow up:

I searched the registry for crc1.tmp, and found an entry under:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Explorer Bars\{C4EE31F3-4768-11D2-BE5C-00A0C9A83DA1}\FilesNamedMRU
    csc1.tmp

The MRU list that you allude to is Most Recently Used which is why if you open another file that will be added to the list. Try clearing the list from the registry and see if that helps.

The path "\winnt\tasks\" references your scheduled tasks. You could always delete a task one at a time until the problem resolves. I would take note of the program and any parameters that are defined in the task before you delete it. You could always restore the task if you want it back. Check your startup folder and see if their is a reference to the CSC1.tmp file
