WinNT missing or corrupt file

    problem on bootup
    ***
    Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    winnt\system32\config\system

    you can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup cd-rom
    select 'r' at the first screen to start repair
    ***
    the files are still present and intact on the HD (tested it out on another machine).

    How the repair procedure go?

    Eventhough the file is there then it can still be invalid.

    What operating system ?
