Winrar.exe error

I have a major problem with Winrar that i need help with. I recently installed Winrar and it worked fine. After a few extractions and whatnot, i try extracting something and i get an error report saying winrar archiver encountered a problem and needs to close. Now i cant uninstall it or use it at all. I try downloading new versions and same thing. Maybe u guys can tell me if there is something i can do like change the registry or something so i can use WINRAR again. heres the error report details

Why can't you uninstall it?

 

because everytime i try to open it or uninstall it...i get an error saying uninstall.exe has encountered a problem...blah blah blah

 

Try uninstalling or reinstalling it in Safe Mode.

If not you will have to manually do a search and delete any Winrar files and folders.

That is a last resort though, so try everything else first.

 

hmmmmm.... i reinstalled it but everytime i try to do anything with it...i get the same error. Problem must be in the registry i guess....

 

You keep mentioning the Registry, but there isn't a Registry hack that will just fix this sort of program incompatibility.

According to the error message you posted, it's conflicting with uxtheme.dll.

Have you installed or used any patches to change the look of Windows or customise it?

Does starting Winrar in Safe Mode have the error?

 

hmmm yea i have installed a patch.....i use style xp to customize the way the desktop and windows work. I guess this problem started occuring once i extracted a file off the website www.themexp.org which is to customize the way windows looks. i can use winrar in safe mode though.

 

Look and see if StyleXP have a solution or update that addresses this, or search around for another version of Winrar that may work well with it.

Either that or you will have to remove StyleXP.

 

thnx insomnia! uve been helpful. Me and my friend figured it out and u were rite. It was style xp causing the problems. I shud have known. Style xp causes too much problems and its buggy. I fixed it now. Thnx for everything.
