Hello everyone , I am having a bit of trouble with my PC & I have tried several things to fix it & I don't know whats wrong with it . I moved out of state for 3 months & left my pc with my daughter & her family. When I came back it was a mess , but on with problem. The main problem I have is that when I turn on or reboot my PC , I get to the desktop & it takes like 10-15 mins or so before I can go on to my homepage . I have tried several cleanings, virus scanning, spyware scanning, removing programs ,etc . Nothing works so here I am. Anyone got any ideas or tips ,things to do or try to find out way it is taking so long . I would appreciate any & all help . Thanks aLot .. Also I have Windows XP with IE8 ...:cry

SOunds like your startup file is full. Try going thru: Start>run> type msconfig and choose the startup folder. Uncheck all programs except for Anti-virus, Audio, Video programs. Re-boot and check the timing.

I did a clients computer yesterday, I use HiJack This to check the registry and control startup ... CCleaner for junk files, ATF Cleaner as a preliminary cleaner, and Advanced System Care WITHOUT the registry cleaner for everything else. On top of that I also use TuneUp 2008 for cleansing windows logs, clearing restore points, SMART defragmenting and general tuning ... if its an especially slow computer, right click on My Computer and select properties ... i think its under the advanced tab ... and select Environment Variables, then select under the System Variables section, make a new entry, the Variable Name being DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES and the Variable Value being 1. apply ok ok etc ....... right click on My Computer and select Manage, then go to Device Manager, in the View menu select Show Hidden Devices, you will now have a crapload of devices in each section that are greyed out ... you can safely delete all of the grey ones ... if you accidentally delete one that the system needs, dont worry 99% of the time it will be re-installed automatically. Then of course run a virus scan with a good virus scanner etc etc etc
