Using my laptop this evening (windows 7) screen flashes briefly, then I noticed Aero turned off with winsat.exe running in the task manager. Would the best thing to do be disabling automatic system assessment? :confused It went back to normal after a not even a minute, without requiring a reboot. What gives?

I'd just leave it if it doesn't happen again,if it starts bugging you disable it.

Is this with your new rig?Are you using onboard video?Do you think that's why its disabling aero?

This is for my laptop Rikster, the windows 7 one. My new rig is xp desktop

yea, I'' keep an eye out and disable it if it happens again. I just wondered why it happened in the first place :confused

AFAIK winsat occasionally checks the performance of your comp then sets the graphical features according to your performance index,if your laptop is getting on a bit that could be doing it also I guess,I think it runs a small benchmark and if your comp is running sluggish it increasing performance by lowering settings such as graphical candy.

I've never had any probs with it,I'm sure someone round here can go into more detail.

EDIT you don't have to disable winsat, it default only runs weekly,you can change when it runs in task scheduler.

While running, the tests show only a progress bar and a "working" background animation. Aero Glass is deactivated during testing so the tool can properly assess the graphics card and CPU.
