Winsow XP Backups Failing

We have been backing up windows XP workstations for quite some time. Now for some reason when we start the backups the process starts the old backup file is deleted from the server but the process to backup the hard drive never starts.

We use the wizard and only backup drive C and the system state.

The workstations are connected to the Cisco switched network. Workstations are a combination of XP pro and home.

What could cause this to happen?

What software are you using for the backup? What is the model# of all of the network hardware? Is this a business, or just a home?

 

We are using the windows backup wizard in a business environment. The network is a connected with Cisco switches. The devices that are failing are attached to a Cisco 2950 switch that is connected to a Cisco 2924XL switch. The server that backups are going to is connected to the 2924 switch. All computers connected to the 2924 switch can successfully complete a backup all the time. The devices on the 2950 intermittently complete a successful backup. The switches are connected with a non trunk Ethernet connection. I tried to bring up a trunk but it would not come up.

 

Your problem is that you are using the Windows backup software. Suggest investing in a better backup product, than relying on that PoS.
