    winsrv not found -BSOD
    Hi All

I seem to have an unusual problem - according to a Google search not encountered since 2006 (that's the latest posts I could find on any forums.), and all seem to relate to XP x 86.

I'm running XP Pro x64 AMD skt 734 2Gb Ram on a Jetway 939GT dual mobo.

Every so often I get the BSOD with the winsrv not found error. I cannot seem to find any common denominator for this. It sometimes happens after an auto update from microsoft requiring an auto restart (PC is on 24/7) but not always, it just seems random.

In the past I've just repaired the OS using the install CD but today I ran CHKDSK via the recovery console.

This returned that there did not appear to be anything wrong with the volume so CHKDSK was not run.

I then ran CHKDSK /R which returned "there is no disc in the drive or the file format could not be recognised."

I'm in the process of doing a repair on the PC now (I'm using my mates for this post) but wuold welcome any suggestions as to what the problem could be. I've run all the usual security checks (Nod32, spybot etc)

I'm pretty PC savvy and can find my way round the system so you can get a bit techy but if its complicated give a bit of a guide. Anymore info you need just ask. I'll be doing a HJT report once the OS is back up and running and can post it if it will help.

    Thanks for your time

    Pip

    HI

Hijackthis reports would only be good if malware was suspected and even then its not a comprehensive scan so not worth attaching, but if your to go the route of thinking malware then the below is what we require.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

Once finished please start a new thread in the Malware Forum plus a guide on how to attach the logs HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

However, what is the full BSOD code you are getting? this may hold the clue.

Do you have latest Service Pack for X64Pro?

Does the BSOD happen in safe mode? if not then suspect a driver or software installed.

    Hi Halo

I only mentioned a HJT file if it was of help. I'm pretty sure I have no malware or spyware that could be causing this. That said no one is 100% sure.

XP pro x64 is updated 100% according to Microsoft (I'm also registered with them).

I would suspect malware if it was a regular problem but it's not. I can restart between 1 & 9 times without it happening and then anywhere inbetween it throws the error up.

    As I said I'm reasonably PC savvy (I look after 7 other PC's) .

I do regular virus and spyware scans both report nothing.(every 3 days) I also have active detection enabled. I'll do everything suggested in your reply and get back to you, but to be quite honest I'm at a loss.
