Noticed today that Microsoft Security Essentials was taking longer than usual to perform my weekly Full Scan.
I noticed for the first time that the Winsxs Folder was being scanned, bringing the total number of files scanned to over 900,000 instead of the usual 140,000.
An hour to do a full scan was normal, not 5+ hours!

A few days ago, I went through the R&R steps in Malware forum, got the all clear from the Malware team.

My question is why the Winsxs folder is being scanned, when I had never seen this on any previous scans. Can I omit this from future scans or is it a necessity?

    Hi Grumbles

What is the Windows version and Service Pack you using?

Did you also notice this more after the other weeks Windows Update?

Not noticed the scan take too long or longer on my Windows 7 32bit install that has MSE2.0 installed on it, but to answer your question yes you can exclude that location by clicking in MSE, Settings > Exclude Files and Locations then browse to the location of the WinSXS folder and click ADD.
