   I am using win 8.1. I have a directory in Windows named WinSxS. It contains over 25,100 folders. The actual number of files in WinSxS is approximately 250,000. The vast majority of these are over six months old. Several hundred appear to be upgraded/renewed/posted every month but not the same ones.
   
   Am I able to delete those more than a year old with no problems saving time and storage space?

   Note this: if you don't see the Windows Update Cleanup option in Disk Cleanup, that means there aren't any files that can be safely deleted.
   
   I feel it is safer to use Windows inbuilt tool to clean up rather than blindly choosing what you think is safe to eliminate.
