winsynch has got my computer hijacked!

I recently got a Dell computer and set it up with a DSL connection. Recently the norton antivirus gave me a big red pop up that read "WARNING, we have detected a high risk virus. We attempted to remove it but were not granted access".

Sure enough, I went into my Windows and attempted to remove the program and the computer would not let me. A few attempts to change the program's settings later and I was still stuck.

The problem is that now my computer wont get online for anything. I can't logon to technical support, to get updates or anything. At the same time, when I originally log onto the computer, it gives me MSN updates on how many email messages I have waiting for me, so I am pretty sure everything is still connected and running.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can rid myself of this problem? If so, PLEASE send me an email at elperrosato@yahoo.com

Assuming OS is XP?

You should print out and follow the instructions here as best you can:

I realize that you may not be able to do the online scans. Note the steps that you can and cannot complete.

You may need to download the necessary tools for the tutorial (including HijackThis) via a healthy computer and burn them on a CD if you cannot download them via your sick computer.

Also, look in Add or Remove Programs and see if you are able to uninstall SyncroAd, WinSync or anything else that looks like it might be related to the problem.
