Good afternoon! Yesterday, from "Download Visualisations" in Media Player Version 12.0.7600.16415, I downloaded -

    http://download.microsoft.com/downl...721C82CC7D2/WinterFunPack2004forWindowsXP.msi

, hoping that it would be better than it turned out to be!!

I tried to uninstall, but got - "Error 1713. Microsoft Winter Fun Pack 2004 for Windows XP cannot install one of its required products, Contact your technical support group."

I have "Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit", so probably shouldn't have tried an XP download? I'm sorry, but I'm completely new to Win7 & an idiot when it comes to fixing problems - though great at creating them!

Google led me to a "fix" from MS, but I don't know where to begin to look for the "Setup.exe" file, nor what to do with it should I stumble upon it!!

Can a kind person here explain - in idiot-proof English, please! - how I can get rid of this stupid thing - every time I fire up the PC, it's there, asking how long I want the slideshow to run etc & changing the b'ground I've set!

Again, apologies for being too stupid for words...

With thanks for your time & attention, Nigel.

PS I have to nip out now, but will come back asap!

To resolve this issue, you must run the Setup.exe file. To do this, locate the Setup.exe file in the root folder of the installation source, and then double-click the file.

This means you open my computer and locate the winter fun pack...application folder - the location it was downloaded. choose the detail folder view and find the setup.exe file run it by double clicking

Thank you for your reply, jewlzs. I'm truly sorry, but I simply can't find the Setup.exe file! I got as far as -

Computer - C - Program Files (x86) - Winter Fun Pack 2004 for Windows XP

but there is nothing in there that says Setup.exe.

I downloaded it via Media Player & have searched the computer to the best of my ability, but can find no sign of the file I need. Can you - or anyone else - see where I'm going wrong?

Once again, I apologise for my idiocy... :banghead

:-D Thank you plodr! Though I still got an "Error 1713" message, I believe that I've got rid of all traces of that stupid program - there'll be no "Winter Fun" here!

Many thanks to you & jewlzs for taking the time to help me out!

If you are still getting an error message, see what is running at startup.
In the run box, type in msconfig and press enter. Click on the startup tab and look over what is listed. One of those items is trying to load up what was removed. Do not remove the checks from anything - yet. Post things running that you are not sure of and I'll go looking to see what might be the item you no longer want.

Thank you for the follow-up, plodr! Service above & beyond the call...

The error message occurred when I ran the Revo Uninstaller, but it still seems to have worked ok - I have no more problems at start-up & can find no trace of the offending program anywhere.

I'm very grateful to you for your consideration & will definitely be back here with a couple more Q's re Win 7 when I've figured out how to word them correctly! :confused :)

Thank you for not allowing me to be the only one who fell for that download. I had the same issue. I also now have the same problem free start. Thanks again!
