WinWord 2000

When Word opens and Doc 1 appears, it already has a file in it. I can't get rid of it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Unless I misunderstand you, open up Doc1, rename it to something else and close it.
Next time you open up Doc 1, it should be blank. Bazza

Many thanks for your response. Any new Doc 1 always opens with the same file, no matter I do. I must have selected it as a template but I can't find it to get rid of it!rolleyes

 

Open up Word.
Click on Help, top right of menu.
Click on Microsoft Word Help.
Click on Index.
Clear out Type your question here...
Type in the word Template in What would you like to do.
About 20 topics will be listed as a result of your Search.
First 6 or so, should help you solve your problem. Best of luck. Bazza

 

Can't remember off hand... any possibility that the Normal.dot was changed to include some text...?

 

1. <LI class=LPROC>On the File menu, click Open, and then locate and open the template you want to modify.
   If there aren't any templates listed in the Open dialog box, click Document Templates in the Files of type box.
2. Change any of the template's text and graphics, styles, formatting, macros, AutoText entries, toolbars, menu settings, and shortcut keys.
3. Then click save

 

Word's default template is called normal.dot. To fix your problem the quickest way, do a search for that file (it's a hidden one) and delete it. Word will create a new one the next time you open the program.
