Hi, first time post. (2nd try)
WinXP Pro downgrade from Vista (ugh!)
    Urgent project. No sound.
    Gateway FX7020
MOBO MCP61PM-GM (on white sticker on MOBO) forum says -HM (actually)
Spent 2 days going through forums, trying downloads.
    Persistent error on some devices.

    Downloaded, executed:
15.24_nforce_winxp32_international_whql (fixed LAN) showed risk to SATA installation, aborted at that point
WDM_R226 downloaded (x3) ran, process aborts at install, VERY frustrating
    Error displayed is:
Realtek HD Audio Driver Failure!! [error code: 0xE0000227]

Have left case on ECS site.
Tried to download WDMR223, but URL page not found

    Please help.

Welcome, rbrake3 :wave , silas is so right, there are a lot more "eyes" over there in the Software section, and you will get a lot more attention there... Good Luck, and I am sure you will get it taken care of.;)

    Hey there rbrake3,

Is this a fresh install, if not try a repair install for Xp.
Or boot in safe mode and have a look at your start up files might be something a miss in there.

    Alternatively

Try a "dxdiag" in the "run menu" wait a second or two and check out the files under the sound tab check for conflicts or issues. (can also test audio in hear)

In control panel / device manager look at sound cards / devices see whats going on is there an excalmation mark or an already expanded area on opening this window - by the audio or other devices. Check for irq conflict well your in there (resource conflict) devices mapping or accessing through the same irq is fine but too many typically irq 5 gets slammed a bit. had an intermittent issue a while back that i traced to this although everything on paper looked fine..

Have a look in services see if there is an entry there for a realtek service running or stopped.

Have you tried unistalling the realtek in safe mode and reinstalling?

Googling or checking on the realtek site for issues with your realtek driver / model and error as reported.

This should keep you going for a little bit. Gluck hope you manage to sort this.

I'm going away for a bit so wont be able to offer any suggestions but plenty of others here to help.

Thanks, Necro61 for comments. I think the issue is a problem with the installation of the driver, which is being halted (see my original message, including an error on installing driver)

Is this a fresh install, if not try a repair install for Xp. FRESH INSTALL.

Or boot in safe mode and have a look at your start up files might be something a miss in there. SAFE MODE BOOT IS CAUGHT BY NORTION 360 WHICH TAKES IT BACK TO NORMAL BOOT.

    Alternatively

Try a "dxdiag" in the "run menu" wait a second or two and check out the files under the sound tab check for conflicts or issues. (can also test audio in hear) WILL TRY.

INITIALLY, VISTA DOWNGRADE TO WINXP PRO LACKED DRIVERS FOR NVIDIA, ALL PCI DEVICES DOWN. READ ON THIS FORUM, DOWNLOADED NVDIA DRIVERS FOR XP, LAN BACK WORKING, STILL NO SOUND.

Have a look in services see if there is an entry there for a realtek service running or stopped. HAVE NOT.

Have you tried unistalling the realtek in safe mode and reinstalling? SEE ABOVE SAFE MODE DIFFICULTY WITH NORTON 360 (SECURITY SOFTWARE).

Googling or checking on the realtek site for issues with your realtek driver / model and error as reported. MOTHERBOARD BASED, CHASED THIS FOR TWO DAYS. REALTEK DRIVER INSTALL FAILS (SEE ORIGINAL MESSAGE).

THANKS FOR TRYING. PLEASE EXCUSE ALL CAPS, THIS IS JUST TO DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN WHAT YOU WROTE, AND MY FEEDBACK. THANKS.
