WinXP Home slow shut down

    In the past few weeks I have noticed that it takes a long time (maybe, a full minute) for my laptop to shut down completely..used to be within 15 seconds. Am I just being impatient or is there something going on that I could correct?

    Thats not really normal.

    Does it shutdown slow in SafeMode?

    as Adrynalyne said above plus some HW specs... may herald a clue.

    have you installed anything new or updated any drivers?

    also..... the old chestnut of.... have you done AV and spyware scans?

    I'm always installing and uninstalling stuff so that may be part of it. I ran a virus scan on my AVG program; none detected - I ran Pest Patrol and found and deleted 2 pests - no change in shut down time.

    It shuts down more slowly in SafeMode!!

    Thanks, Robo. I see that covers 24 pages of info - I'll read it sometime after the Colts/Chiefs game and before the GA-Tech/UNC game. Go Tarheels!!

    Just a thought,, do you have your OS set to clear pagefile, or dump memory to disk on shutdown? Either one of those can add a considerable amount of time to shutting down. You probably don't have these options set, but it's worth a look.
