I'm considering messing with Windows XP Mode for my home PC running Windows 7 X64 Home Premium. I started looking for information about it, and read in the 'System Requirements' at the Microsoft page that the supported Win7 versions do NOT include Home Premium. Has anyone tried using this "XP Mode" on a Win7 Home Premium PC? Did it work? I don't want to spend a bunch of time downloading and installing things if it's a dead end.....

(OK - a "bunch of time" is likely closer to 3-5 minutes, but you know what I mean, right? :-o :innocent )

Yes, I've used it. And, I will say, make sure the "virtual pc" is up and running, otherwise it may take a bit'o'time to start up (1-3 minutes to start an app on older computers). I prefer vmware workstation's version, but it is sadly not free.

I have it running at work, to get exchange 2003 and ADUC to work hand in hand. Otherwise I have to rdp into the exchange server and use ADUC there.

*ADUC = Active Directory Users and Computers.

Sorry to hear that there's no XP Mode in W7 HP. It's basically a no frills installation of XP and completely hands free, click install and that's it.. If you really need XP and have a disc then either VPC or VMWare Player(free) will be fine. Just make sure 'virtualization' is enabled in BIOS first. I haven't tried it in HP but EDIT:

If it's worth it or not, only you can decide.

According to this link for $89.00 one can migrate XP to Win 7 easily. http://www.zinstall.com/

Of course haven't tried it and may be too expensive if you can do it on your own. It's nowhere mentioned about the possibility to migrate pre-installed Windows XP's such as Dell, HP etc. to Win 7 (new machine) but one can always ask them?
