WinXP networking difficulties. MCP nvidia network adapter

I am having difficulty networking 2 winxp machines at home.

Currently we are using a 4port switch ADSL router (Billion) and 2 standard cat5 cables.

Network settings are are

Nvidia MCP networking adapter (this is my motherboard onboard NIC)
TCP/IP setting is to Obtain addresss automatically on both machines
workgroup MSHOME


IP addresses on both the machines detect as: 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101
IP address of the router is 192.168.1.254

neither computer can see the other computer in the workgroup MSHOME.
The first computer (.100) is able to ping second computer (.101) but second computer is unable to ping the first back.



I tried setting the IP addresses manually. with no luck connecting at all.

Please help me

I've never had such trouble networking before.. Are other people having similar problems with XP?

sounds like NetBIOS is turned off. You don't need to SEE the other pc's to connect to them.

You could always connect using a UNC.
start->run->type

\\192.168.1.100\c$ to login to the machine with that IP. Do the same for the other machines on your network.

I made sure the NETBIOS setting was on

still no luck.

Its unusual how I can ping machine A from machine B, but cant ping machine B from A.

anyway..

I installed a new NIC and stopped using the onboard adapter.

BINGO works straight away.
It makes me not trust the ol' onboard adapters as much.
