Hi! I recently discovered that somebody has been meddling with the settings of a WinXP computer. I was able to fix all of the noticed settings except the caret: instead of a thin line, it's now a block. How do I fix the caret?

baklogic: no. I'm looking to fix the caret in Notepad and dialog text boxes.

    TimW: It doesn't help. :(

Change the scheme for the pointer option in mouse settings to get a line for the cursor.

Follow these steps to do the same:

    a. Click the Start menu. Select Control Panel.

    b. In Control Panel:

    • Be sure you are in Classic View (all Control Panel icons are showing).

    • If not, under Control Panel in the left pane, select Switch to Classic View.

    • Select Mouse.

    c. In the Mouse Properties dialog box, on the Pointers tab, under Scheme select “Windows Default Scheme” from the drop down menu and under Customizeselect Normal from the list.

    d. Click Apply. Click OK.

Sorry for the delay: I'm having problems with a flash drive. I tried it today, and it didn't work: the caret is still a block, not a thin line. :(

  8. Type "Control Panel" in the "Search" bar on the taskbar to enter into it. Then navigate to "Ease Of Access" and Under "Ease Of Access Center" Click On "Optimize Visual Display" and Then Navigate to the bottom where It says "Make Things On The Screen Easier To See" and then from there you'll be able to change your settings.

P.S. This is in "Category View".

    Hope This Helps

  10. I just realized that my last post was instructions for W10 not XP. In XP It's in "Control Panel" and then "Accessibility Options" this can be done in either Category view or Classic view I chose Classic. You will be presented with a window that has multiple tabs click the "Display" tab and down under "Cursor Options" you can change thickness and speed of blinking if you choose to do so.

    Sorry for the incorrect information.
