I'm working on a PC that automatically boots into safe mode. No menu comes up asking which mode I want to boot into. If I press F8, it boots into Safe Mode regardless of which choice I make. Is this a problem w/ the boot.ini file? The last switch in boot.ini says '/safeboot:network' after the part where it says '/fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn'.... should I remove the safeboot switch?
Any help or suggestions will be appreciated!

    Your deduction is correct.
For all the gory details see

If the pc is set to safemode for a good reason you might add the /sos switch to see which driver is failing

Thanx for the link. VERY informative! I had no idea that so many switches were available for the boot.ini file!!! I removed the last switch (/safeboot) after adding (and later removing) the /sos switch and now everything is copasetic (spelling?).... thanx again!

Wowfreak: You need to update or install your video card driver. That should fix your probem.

If you have just reformatted a pc/laptop you have presumably also reinstalled Windows?
Whenever you reinstall Windows there will be hardware drivers required that are not on the Windows CD. These may be for motherboard, sound, graphics, network and other coms..
In addition to your Windows CD you should have received a drivers CD from your original supplier. Have this handy in the drive.
Hold the windows key down and press pause/break
Go to device manager in the hardware tab
Look for little yellow traingles against entries. These are missing drivers.
Click on each in turn and chose properties>install driver
Point the system at the hard drive.
    Restart after each one
Do the graphics first as it will give you a bettter picture to work from

If you don't have a CD see what device manager tells you about the hardware and post the details so we can help find the drivers.

Your problem really has nothing to do with BOOT.INI and belongs inn its own thread.
