WinXP SP3 Now Cannot Connect To Internet

I just downloaded SP3 from "Update Icon". Now I cannot connect to Internet. Any ideas. Using IE and OE7.0:cry

Forgot to add that I am using a router(LinkSys) and DSL modem and another computer is on it that wasNOT updated to SP3 and it works fine in same router port

 

What happens if you right-click on the network icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and press "repair"? Do you get any error message?

 

The early releases of SP3 for XP gave many people problems such as you describe.
Try uninstalling SP3 and reinstalling the latest build:

Ok after 4 hours on the phone with MS SP3 Tech Support and 3 Software Engineers in Texas for MS WinXP SP3, they have determined that there is NO FIX at this time for this problem! The steps taken by MS Engimeering was to backup my entire computer on their server in Texas. Then they disabled all 3rd party software leaving only WinXP. Result still couldNOT connect to DNS/ISP.
Every single "fix" noted in blogs, here on MG, and other websites did NOTHING!
SP3 was removed and re-installed...still did not work! Finally SP2 was restored on computer and AOK!

There is a MS Download that will "disable" the SP3 attempt to download on any computer for 1 year. I loaded the download on both my WinXP SP2 computers so the "U.pdate" will not update to SP3.
I was told by MS Software SP3 Support that there is very little that SP3 does to enhance the computer anyway.
So if you dont want to get shut out totally from your DNS/ISP go to MS WINXP downloads and download the SP3 Blocker Tool.exe.

Glad I didn't have any issues with SP3. Slipstream it to installation CD, saves a lot of updating via the internet after a fresh install.

 

May 2009..STILL cannot go SP3 on 2 computers with Win XP MC editions. What the hell is going on?????

 

This was a KNOWN Window/Microsoft problem nearly a year ago. Just read any forum on SP3 problems and you will see. Once SP3 is downloaded all is fine UNTIL you try to connect to the Internet.
MS Tech Support COULD NOT fix problem and the "hot fix" was to dowmload "SP3 Blocker Tool.exe from the Windows web site back a year ago.
This was to be good only until May 19th, 2009. Well looks like they never fixed the problem because the 2 computers I have, my neighbors, 10 at my office CANNOT CONNECT TO INTERNET USING IE 7 or 8.

MS Tech Support looged into both my computers, removed ALL 3rd party software and could NOT log onto the internet.
They have no idea why nor do they have a 2009 fix!
