winxp system recovery, jpgs missing??

OK, My husband was trying to get into safe mode, and somehow, ( i dont know how i wasn't home) got into a system recovery. He didn't wnat to be in this, so he decided to shut it off... ( i know now smart ). Well then it wouldn't reboot, a file was corrupted. Well he surfed for an answer,and went back in and did a hp_Recovery, now all my jpgs are missing... files like winamp and such are still there. But I need my pictures back... is it possible to go back to the later time like the option in WinME, to scanreg /restore?

I have not used this but see how you go with PhotoRec.

Don't use the pc until you have recovered the files as they might get over written.

When you get them back, back them up.
