Can ne1 tell me how to stop the automated WinXP web service from automatically starting up on port 80 or any other port for that matter. Did I inadvertantly install or turn this option on.
    Thanks

go into your control panel and go to ADD/REMOVE.. click on add/remove components and select IIS from the list to remove it. Make sure you select remove. It will uninstall IIS and remove any web server from your machine.

IIS stands for Internet Information services... look for that in list.

If you close port 80, you will be closing HTTP. .which means, no internet for you.

Sorry for not answering you before, but my system crashed, and it's taken me awhile to get back into it.
Ok anyway now that I have a new WinXP pro install the open 80 port is no longer a problem, but now I need to know where did it come from, I am now as I was then behind a fully stealthed firewall, the only openings I have now are what I choose to have and everything is working fine.
Thanks for your help by the way!

    AFAIK, IIS gets installed:

    A. Becuase you installed it! :p

    B. An App installed it for you. One that comes to mind is Visual Studio.net.

An App installed it for me. One that comes to mind is Visual Studio.net. By default or did I miss something, and are there other programs or sites that would do this.
    Thanx
