i'll admit it i'm cheap. looking for a similiar program that when i unzip all the files to a destination (like a program from MG) the utility will create the program folder too so that the extracted files will reside in it. thanks in advance.

thanks folks i've tried 7zip and zip genius maybe i'm doing something wrong in set up. when i unzip or extact say to program files they extract them there fine but don't create a program folders for the individual files to reside in, unless i create it first and then extract to the newly created folder. winzip automatically created the program folder i suppose i'm screwing up? thanks

No file archiver automatically creates the path, unless it is part of the archive. You can specify path during extract.

its shareware but it still works for me years later
its easy to add a file path
    and has better compression

thanks all i get setting the path for unzip/extract like to c/progfiles. is winzip unique in that it will create a prog folder for the files? if i use 7zip etc i can create the c/progfile/foldername first and then extract the files into it. is there a way to auto create that folder? is that why maybe winzip is shareware?

I would imagine any zip program would have a default path you could specify.

I think Tugzip is probably the most immitiate userfriendly free tools of this kind http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4670 Go do his site http://www.tugzip.com/ and click screenshots. Install is better, go straight to configuration. Also very powerful program, supports 7zip and even ACE, RAR if you have those programs installed. Can also make ACE, RAR files.

Winzip survives only because of peoples habbits so if you want to let it go spend at least 30 min with Tugzip - in case potential is not obvious to you.

In Explorer, Tugzip itself, you rightclick a file and want to extract. Write new folder as target and you will be told "xxxxxx does not exsist, you want to create?" Yes you do and then archive is unpacked - with its own folder arranged under your new folder. Actually I think most programs can do that. Sometimes you might have to click a "New folder" icon. Select your rightclick menu so you get what you want to see in Explorer. Put menu in own submenu - you probably wont even have to open Tugzip very often if needs are simple.
