Wiping my HDD

    I have a computer with McAfee Anti-Virus and a crapload of spyware. I want to wipe my HDD, but I don't know what program is the best. There are two requirements it must meet: 1) its free and 2) it works.

    Hi nickompoop.

    UBCD is a great "tool" that has many useful app's on it, some of which are Disk wiping utilities.

    It is also completely free :)

    Remember you have to burn it to a CD as an .ISO image file.. NOT just like a normal data CD, and you have to put the disk in the drive and restart to boot from it :)

    NOTE: The "wiping" utilities are in the "hard disk tools" section... i recommend using the "Active@killdisk" option.... it is a two pass zero write.

    Fdisk & Format? Pretty cheap What are you planning on installing once you have cleaned it up?

    my computer is not booting from the CD with the .iso file....

    Hi


    Did you burn the ISO to a CD as in the files from the ISO where uncompacted and burned so that the CD opens and data can be read off it or did you just burn the ISO file to a disk? if the latter then use ImgBurn to burn that ISO file to CD

    Then enter your BIOS and set the 1st boot device to CDROM and then save and exit the BIOS and your PC should now boot to the CD.
