Just built 2 barebones ASUS motherboard with builtin Lan (10/100) ethernet cards. Running XP sev. pack 3 replacing 2 10 year old computers that ran 98 that had LAN (wired) network access but no internet of any configuration.

These computers are on a small business network with IP range 192.1.2.xx that DOES NOT have internet thru the LAN (Hard wire). computers are Hard wired to a hub this network is for file/printer sharing and access to a data base for running a software called Tribute from a server. These computers have to use static IP addresses and can not use DHCP (dumb hub and server has no DHCP capabilities)

Our internet is wireless on IP range 192.168.1.X using USB wireless NIC's with DHCP (have to use DHCP on the wirless side to accomdate other hardware & users)

Problem is we can not run the wired and wireless at the same time (wireless will not work when the lan card in the computers a enabeled) and if we are running on the wired LAN the wireless side from time to time disconnects the wired connection to the server which leaves open partitions on the server and the server has to be reset.

As long as we are not running both at the same time everything works fine it just breaks when we try and run wired and wireless at the same time and it's a PITA to disable and enable the LAN card every time we need to go from running server application/printers/ etc. to accessing the internet (web access or email).

I have checked for hardware conflicts and IRQ conflicts and there are none.

I have a feeling it is in the way we have setup the network using the Microsoft Network setup wizard that comes with XP.

Any ideas ? any tutorials on how to do what we are trying to do without confusion on all the other network possibilities I have seen on the various MS and other forums ?

    Thanks

so to clarify, you have 2 networks. one network with no internet access, just some computers with static ips and a switch on 192.1.2.xx??
and another network with internet access on 192.168.1.x? how is this network set up?

The first Wired has IP address range 192.1.2.x when setp up MS network neighborhood as "Workgroup" with file and printer sharing. hard wired Cat6 eithernet cables to hub for both Computers and printers (HP w/ DeskJet eithernet port also networked to hub). Hub connects to a Adtran T1 router for connection to server located in another city.

Wireless with D-link DWL-G122 USB wireless Nic's attached to usb ports. IP range 192.168.1.X wireless connection to our internet provider DSL using a 2wire wireless router. The 2wire router is in another bldg. the owner of our company has 2 different business that operate on the same complex but other than internet do not share any other networks or data bases. We do not share anyother network resources (printers or files) on the wireless side.

The wireless USB nic's are not asigned a network name in the computers. the setup is for each computer to obtain their own internet access via wireless but share network resources via Cat6 eithner cable.

I don't believe it's a hardware issue (conflict of IRQ etc.), I have a Sony Viao (PCG-K37) that I setup and it works 100% (Getting BOTH wired network and wireless internet service at the same time). other than just changing the LAN (Hard wired Cat6 10/100 card) IP address to a static address 192.1.2.xx
all I had to do for the wireless internet was turn on the builtin wi-fi card (LAN-Express AS IEEE 802.11g miniPCI Adapter) and it gets the wireless connection via DHCP thru the 2wire dsl router. I have done a plug and play (after loading the proper drivers) for the same D-Link DWL NICs we are using on the ASUS desktops and it also works 100%.

you wont be able to do it like that since you have ip address on two different networks on one computer. one ip is on 192.1.2.0 and the other is on 192.168.1.0. one at a time works, but you wont be able to use the both at the same time.
