Wireless Adapter Not Connecting to the Net

I know Majorgeeks does not like multiple posts on the same issue and I am not trying to get my problem resolved quicker but as I don’t seem to be getting much feedback on my original post (see thread: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1465335) I’m wondering if I haven’t selected the best forum for my problem. I originally posted in the Hardware forum. I am posting this problem again in the Network forum because it might be the better forum for this problem.

My original post said:

“My wireless adapter is not working on my desktop PC.

“My OS is Windows XP HE SP3.

“My wireless adapter is a Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter (manufacturer: Linksys, model: WUSB54GC-EU, hardware version: 1)

“I plugged it into a USB port. It finds a number of wireless connections. I selected mine (my router is Linksys too). It asked me for the password which I entered correctly. The adapter says its status is “Acquiring network address”. It just keeps saying that but never actually connects.

“I believe it must be the adapter because my laptop connects to the net through the same router and there are no problems connecting to the net from my laptop.

“To try to resolve the problem I have connected up my modem in order to connect to the net via that method and then searched for an update for the wireless adapter’s driver but it is up to date. I checked the adapter in Device Manager and there’s no yellow question mark or red exclamation mark, which would indicate a problem with the device.

“This adapter has worked before on this PC so I don’t know why it is not working now. I recently had a problem with the PC (see this thread: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=211352) but everything else on my PC seems to working fine.

“I just don’t know what to do now to resolve this particular problem.”
