Wireless Adaptor Disappeared

I have an HP ENVY x360 - 13-y023cl laptop running Windows 10 Pro.

This morning, the wireless adaptor (Intel Dual Band Wireless AC 7265) decided it no longer wanted to work.

Under Network Settings, there is NO wireless adaptor listed at all.

Under Device Manager, the device is there, but it has an error. Clicking on the device, and it says the driver cannot be loaded. I have uninstalled the device and reinstalled it. I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers from Intel.

I have run the HP Diagnostic tool and everything comes back as OK.

I restored my computer to a restore point from last week and the error persists. Everything was working last night, but suddenly this morning.... nadda. There were no software or hardware updates to the system for at least the last week. And the only thing that was installed last week was a regular Windows update. But even still... it was working after the update.

I have Linux Ubuntu installed as a dual boot on a second partition. If I boot up into Linux, everything works fine, so the hardware itself is working.

I tried contacting HP and they won't help me because I upgraded from Windows 10 Home (OEM) to Win10 Pro, which... apparently... voided my warranty?!?


This is my laptop for grad school, so losing it right in the middle of the term is really going to hurt.

What else can I do/check?

 

I like to have a spare wifi dongle at hand for moments like this. This cost £7 but if it doesn't work I'm sure you could negotiate a refund.
