Wireless card not talking to router?

Hi

I purchased a Powerspec pc at an estate sale. I have installed a wireless card, new graphics card and new sound card. The former owners home page was his Yahoo email login page and this would open first when accessing the internet. I went into add remove programs and deleted that(Yahoo software). I next went to control panel, networks and deleted the old dial up icon. I also went into the registry and deleted the Google toolbar because I could not do it in add/remove programs. The only two remaning icons are the ethernet icon and my new trendnet wireless icon. I now cannot access the internet although everything shows that the card is working. Did I screw something up by deleting the items I mentioned? The card worked fine. Now after making the changes it does not. HELP!

Open Internet explorer

tools> intenet options > connections tab

make sure pc is set to never dial a connection (radio button)

click the Lan settings button

make sure both the automatic settings and proxy server are unchecked

click Ok

close and reopen internet explorer.

Does it now work for you ?

 

I checked the settings and everything is as it should be. I was able to ping google with no loss of packets. I also ran the Windows wireless network configuration setup. It found our network but I still cannot access the internet. Believing it was the windows firewall blocking traffic, I turned the firewall off. The icon for my wireles card though says that it is "firewalled". I am beginning to believe that it is the Symantec sercurity software is preventing internet access. I tried to uninstall it but cannot. Any ideas?
