Wireless card won't connect on startup

this is my 1st post so bear with me.
I have small home wireless network, 1 desktop, 1 laptop & 2 pda's. Both desk and laptop are running xp pro. I have a new D-Link DWL G650 Wireless card. it's the same model as my old card just a diff. version. ver 2.54. h/w b5. I don't have the Cd that came with the card. (don't ask) however I did go to the D-link site and download the driver which i believe is the same as the one I was using for my previous card.

Here's my problem-

when my cpu is turned on I can put the card in it will detect my network and connect with no problems whatsoever. the same applies if I log out and back on and it will connect with no problems. If i shut down and restart my cpu or just turn it on the card will not be detected or connect upon startup. my old card always has. I've tried unistalling all the drivers and sofware from the last card and reinstalling with no success. I can very easily pull the card out then slide it back in to get a connection but it's driving me crazy that i can't figure out how to fix it. I think it might just be a setting someplace. I ran msconfig and enabled in the startup all the d link items and that didn't work either. If you have any tips at all i'm to try just about anything.

If it makes any diff. at all my wireless network doesn't appear in my nework connections if the card is not in the cpu. i thought that in the past it still showed the wireless connection as being there with the status as not connected. now my wireless connection show the number 9 after it. started with 3 4 5 and so on. i'm not sure what i'm doing to cause this. i have unistalled and reinstalled the driver shut down and restarted till i'm blue in the face. i do have the installation cd now also. if needed.
