hello all, i'm new to this forum. (*noob alert). anyhow, i have a wireless setup with my dsl. my wireless router is only a b by linksys. anyhow, I set everything up accordingly, and even set up a 128 bit wep successfully. However, the connection only last for about 30 minutes to 3 hours, and then wireless just fails, loses connection. I have no clue why its doing that. The only reason I have is that I have roommates, and one of them always F*#@# around with the wireless settings, and have no clue why he's always trying to configure the wireless router, when I have already done so. Second, when our wireless wasnt secured, i would see atleast 3 neighbors hooking up to our wireless netork. Could it possibly be that one of those idiot neighbors is a hacker??? Because I don't see why the router would just lose connection after Its been configured correctly.

Also, just to let you guys know, when the dsl is connected directly, it works fine. Only when the wireless is set up, it fails after so many minutes, or hours.

On a last note, I also have the latest firmware installed. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. I need to play my game world of warcraft without any interruptions. hehe.....

Is it your wireless connection that is dropping, or your connection to the internet? These are two different issues. Please clarify.

If it is your wireless that is disconnecting, try changing the channels on the router. Make sure you do this from a wired connection.
Do all of the PCs on your wireless network experience the same issue?
What is the model of your wireless card, and the wireless router?

And if your roommate keeps messing with the wireless settings, change the password for the router.

I did mention that if it was connected directly that it works fine. So, it is only through wireless setup that it fails. Everyone on the wireless network loses connection. All equipment used is linksys.

Take a look at the Wireless Cards Drivers properties and make sure that they are not set to power saving.

    I'm also having problems...I've got a linkysys G broadband router. I'm hooking up a dell dimension 4600 desktop w/OS winXP-SP2 and a dell inspiron 4000 laptop, also using winXP-SP2.
all the network gear is linksys. The network card for the laptop is working fine and see's my router and everyone elses in the neighborhood as well. The network card for the desktop doesn't see any networks. The router is set up in the same room as the desktop and the antenna's have line-of-sight. the desktop pci card has been un-installed 3 X's as well as the driver the same. another posting mentioned making sure the driver power save mode properties were set correctly.
what is the correct setting; I see 3 options, fast, enabled, disabled.
also linksys offers security settings of WEP, PSK & PSK + radius. How do these settings match what XP offers, i.e. WEP & WPA.
I can pretty much assume that both linksys and xp settings of WEP are the same, but how do PSK & PSK + radius compare to WPA. Are they the same thing???
