wireless connection problem

I have two laptops that I want to set up as wireless to connect to the Internet with my Netgear wireless router WGR614 v4. My toshiba which is in another room connects with no problem, but my dell which is in the same room as the cable modem and router will not connect wireless, it will only connect when i hardwire to the router. Bothe computers are running winXP sp2. Any suggestions?

 

Are your wireless settings correct? Are you broadcasting your SSID? If not you need to type in your SSID and what ever PSK or WEP code you have used to secure it. Is your Router running DHCP, if not then your laptop will not aquire an IP. The other laptop may have had one statically assigned. Are you using the Windows zero wireless software or the manufactures software to configure it?

Check into these things and get back

 

I'm curious, is that two pcmcia to one router?

 

neither one is using a pcmcia they are both internal mini-pci cards
i tried typing in the ssid and the wep code but neede yo enter a username and password, but have no clue as to what that is. I didn't originally set computer up. Is there a way to start frm scratch? factory defaults.

The default username - admin
The default password - password

You can use these if they weren't changed in the original set up.
There is a reset button on the rear if you want to go that route.
