Currently i have a linksys wrk54g wireless router, and two laptops with linksys wireless g cards. I would like to upgrade my router to get better coverage throught the house (2 story). My question is if i get a router with MIMO or netgear with rangemax-mimo- technology, would it work with my existings notebooks cards or would i have to get new cards also ?

    thanks

I belive that the cards will still work even though there diffrent brands of routers

thanks for the reply, but my question is would the notebook card have to be with MIMO, cause i see selling MIMO cards and am wondering if u dont need a card with MIMO technology, the card will still accept singal for the mimo router

    thanks

I have used MIMO equipment and have not found it to provide any better range or signal strength within a building lika a home. If you mount it outside in a plastic box the range does seem to be better then the standard G.

The Linksys WRT54G Version 4 and older has provided the best overall performance in every situation I have used one. When I require added range or signal strength, I apply the DD-WRT firmware and set the Tx power to about 175mw using 9Dbi antennas. In an outdoor application I have experienced a stable range of over 3/4 mile.

[Edit] The MIMO equipment does seem to cause greater interference with the 2.4 ghz cordless phones.

To benefit (if there would be one) from the MIMO you need a MIMO Router and a MINO Card.

What I think about MINO, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#MIMO

Would MIMO help you? You would Not know until you try.

The best Method to Extend Wireless Coverage depends heavily on the Specific Envioroment.

Look at these pages they describe most of the options that are within the means of Entry Level users, and choose the one that fits you envioroment best.

    Exactly!

Also, IIRC, the ethernet standard for MIMO technology (802.11N) hasn't even been ratified! That means if you buy this technology now, it may not comply to the standards to be set shortly in the future, causing possible hardware compatibility issues.
