    Hi guys,

    I'm running a Lenovo T61p on WinXPsp3.

I've started to have problems with ALL my wireless connections. I can connect ok, but then after a few seconds, sometimes minutes, the connection drops then usually re-establishes. This has only started to happen recently, the last 2 weeks, I have no idea what has changed in that time, I can't think of anything.

Like I said, this is affecting ALL of my wireless connections. I have tried switch channels on routers in some locations incase interference is an issue, but its still the same.

I'm using the Windows Client to manage wireless.
I've updated Intel Wireless LAN to the latest driver.
I've also updated the Wireless LAN adapter from here...

Can anybody suggest what could be causing this problem please?

    Thanks
    Bob

I want to make sure I understand correctly. Have you connected wireless anywhere else with your T61 laptop? Is that working? Also, have you connected anything else to this wireless router and is that working? I think from what you said all your connections are dropping so I'm assuming that is different laptops or wireless devices so your looking at the router as the issue. If that is the case have you tried updating your firmware on the router? If that does not work you can try resetting your wireless router back to factory settings and seeing if you can connect and it holds with no security on it. Of course you'll have to put back on your wireless security and any other settings you've changed since you got it. Let me know if this helps.

    Hi, thanks for the response.

No, its the other way round. The T61p is dropping wireless connections from different routers at totally different places on different networks. Its definately a client issue, but I cant think what it could be. I have 3 main locations where I use this machine wirelessly and it does the same at each.

I have tried clearing out all the wireless profiles from the Windows client. I have also tried giving a router a new SSID and key, powering it off for over an hour then rebooting both devices. It looked promising as I stayed connected for more than a minute, but back to the same problem now.

Wireless has been running fine at different locations for months on this laptop. I dont understand what could be affecting it. The only thing I have done network related in thepast 2 weeks was to try to create an ad-hoc network on this machine so I could connect my iphone. That didn't work because of domain restirctions, but I cant think of any global settings that I would have changed to do this...

    Any other suggestions?

    Bob

Have you tried replacing the wireless chip inside all together? Probably don't have the extra part but those T61's usually have a 3 year warranty and Lenovo should be able to help you on that. Unless you think it's a software issue which in case I would try removing the device all together from device manager and starting all over.

    Hi again,

The full uninstall - reboot - reinstall of the wireless device and anything related gave me hope. I got a full 3 hours connection before it started dropping again. Now I'm back to 3mins on, 1 min off. :(((

    Anything else?

I would recommend your next step is contact Lenovo support for a hardware issue cause I'm sure that laptop should be in warranty. Usually get 3 years with those and T61's are about 2 years old now. If it's a bad part they'll replace it.
