.........searched the forum and was unable to find the answer I need. What is the max distance (indoor or outdoor) that a router can be from the adapter attached to the desktop? Also is it better to install a PCI wireless card or a USB type adapter when it comes to max distance. I would like it to be able to viably read it from a distance of about 200 feet that is partially indoors and partially indoors. I am looking at the Linksys WRT54G router with a compatable adapter. Thanks for any feedback

I think Linksys says about 60 feet .... 100 feet with a repeater. But your situation will be dependant on walls and other interference .... so I'd try getting stronger antenna's for the router and also a repeater. Then hope you can get a decent signal strength.

    Just to let you know,
We have a WRT54G at work and my desktop gets a good signal at about 60 feet. The desktop uses the Linksys PCI card and is almost at the same level as the router which is 5 - 6' off the floor. Goes through 4 normal walls (Wood frame and sheetrock). No cabinets or other furniture or electical interference. A second desktop is approx. 85' and gets at the low range of reception. This is using the stock antennas.
Linksys also has come out with stronger antennas that can replace the stock antennas. (7 db I think at about $70.00)
