Wireless Good- Personal Connection Bad

I do apologize if this topic has been discussed- but I didn't see it anywhere, so here goes...

I just moved to a new apartment and I am paying for an Internet connection with my roommate. I had been getting our connection just fine for 2 weeks, and then suddenly it will not be available at all and disconnect me. I will then be re-connected with a weak signal from another unsecured network in my building. This happens all the time. I will basically have my personal connection at 100% excellent level for a few minutes- and then it drops me. It is still listed on my list for connections, and it shows at full strength - But when I try to re-establish a connection, it will continue to search and search without finding it. I have tried removing all other wireless connections shown in my building and leaving mine as the only one on the list- but still no go.

My roommate has no problem with the connection. She clicks it on and it stays on. The only thing I have found to work is sometimes if she can either refresh her Internet page, or go out and then come back into the Internet- that will occasionally get me back in momentarily. It never lasts though. She says it must be my computer- but I don't know.

I am approaching the end of my rope, as it's been nearly a month now, and I pay for this service and end up jumping on someone else's weak signal.

How do you share your internet? Is this via router or ICS? How is your flat mate connected? What kind of OS are you running? More info please.

To answer your questions, we share a router connection. My roomate's desktop is hardlined and her laptop is wireless. I used an XP Home OS.
